I love the history of Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Last summer I saw this post on Daveland with pictures of a burning settlers cabin on Tom Sawyer Island. The pictures were from 1960. The burning cabin was visible from the Mark Twain Riverboat on the Rivers of America.
I rode the Liberty Belle during my most recent trip to Walt Disney World and saw a similar looking cabin on Tom Sawyer Island, but it was not burning.
I guess I have a few questions:
- Did Walt Disney World's incarnation of the cabin ever burn?
- If so, does the cabin still burn? (maybe it was malfunctioning or turned off during my visit)
- Does the original cabin in Disneyland still burn?
This looks like one of those cool details that Imagineers put around the parks to further tell their story. I could totally understand if it didn't operate anymore for safety reasons or something - but it would be SO COOL if it did.
