I love the history of Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Last summer I saw this post on Daveland with pictures of a burning settlers cabin on Tom Sawyer Island. The pictures were from 1960. The burning cabin was visible from the Mark Twain Riverboat on the Rivers of America.

I rode the Liberty Belle during my most recent trip to Walt Disney World and saw a similar looking cabin on Tom Sawyer Island, but it was not burning.

I guess I have a few questions:

  • Did Walt Disney World's incarnation of the cabin ever burn?
  • If so, does the cabin still burn? (maybe it was malfunctioning or turned off during my visit)
  • Does the original cabin in Disneyland still burn?

This looks like one of those cool details that Imagineers put around the parks to further tell their story. I could totally understand if it didn't operate anymore for safety reasons or something - but it would be SO COOL if it did.

The cabin used to burn in Disney world, but it hasn't been burning in the past five years. We go every year, and the last burning picture that I have is from 2005. For more information, check out the followig link, http://www.yesterland.com/burningcabin.html
